For the past 20 years, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) together with the European Commission has been organising the flagship event European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC) gathering on an annual basis over 18,000 people from across European regions, cities, towns and villages.
For its first edition in 2023, the EPP Week of Regions and Cities is part of the annual gathering that brings to the heart of Europe the authentic life of people living in EU regions, cities and villages. It is the perfect opportunity for the EPP European, national and local leaders and EPP-like minded representatives to meet and discuss future projects, plans and the 2024 European Elections.
The EPP believes that the diversity and traditions that villages, cities and regions across Europe have been embracing for decades are an integral part of the European way of life. These are rooted in European democratic values and based on sustainability practices. To showcase this diversity, the EPP Group in the European Parliament, the EPP (party) and the EPP-CoR Group will organise an EPP Gathering giving villages, cities and regions the opportunity to showcase local and regional traditions including culinary richness and beverages produced in EU's regions, traditional goods produced by local artisans and successful projects.
The participants include: Finnish Growth Corridor (FI); Tipperary County (IE), Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County (IE); Lower Austria (AT); Timiş (RO), Harghita (RO); South Moravia (CZ); Novo Mesto (SI); Warsaw (PL), Kujawsko-Pomorskie (PL), Warmińsko-Mazurskie (PL); Braga (PT), Póvoa de Varzim (PT), Mafra (PT), Aveiro (PT); Castilla and León (ES), Galicia (ES), Murcia (ES), Extremadura (ES), Andalusia (ES).
The event will be officially opened at 19h30 by Manfred Weber, President of the EPP and Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, Olgierd Geblewicz, President of the EPP Group in the European Committee of the Regions and President of West Pomerania Region, Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, Dubravka Šuica European Commission Vice-President for Democracy and Demography and Mairead McGuinness, European Commissioner for financial services, financial stability and Capital Markets Union.
