Nominations are now open for the 5th edition of the Paweł Adamowicz Award, which honours individuals, communities and organisations who courageously defend democracy, human dignity and freedom at the local level.
The Award was created in memory of Paweł Adamowicz, the long-serving Mayor of Gdańsk, tragically murdered in 2019 while serving his city. His legacy of solidarity, openness and dialogue lives on through this recognition of those who build more inclusive and resilient communities.
The initiative is a partnership between the City of Gdańsk, the European Committee of the Regions, and the International Cities of Refuge Network (ICORN).
In a facebook message, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Mayor of Gdańsk said “Many unsung heroes deserve to be seen and to be rewarded. Those who are fighting for fragile societies, those who are fighting for human dignity and freedom. This is why—and what—the Paweł Adamowicz Award is about.”
