This award will contribute to the creation of regional partnerships, as well as to the further implementation of an entrepreneurial and pro-innovative approach among residents and local businesses." Olgierd Geblewicz, EPP-CoR Group President and President of Western Pomerania made these remarks after receiving the European Entrepreneurial Region (EER) award on behalf of his region.

Congratulating all winners, Eddy van Hijum, Member of the Council of the Province of Overijssel said “Now more than ever it is important to strengthen European industry and bolster the competitiveness of European SMEs. I commend the winners of the EER award on leading the way towards the sustainable recovery of their local and regional economies.”

EER Award

The EER is a project that identifies and rewards EU regions and cities which show an outstanding and innovative entrepreneurial policy strategy, irrespective of their size, wealth and competences. Regions and cities with the most credible, forward-thinking and promising vision plan are granted the label "European Entrepreneurial Region" (EER) for a specific year.

The EER label has been set up in partnership with the European Commission and is supported by EU level stakeholders such as SME United, Eurochambres, Social Economy Europe and EURADA. It remains open to any organisation willing to contribute to its objectives.

The EER award for the year 2023 has been granted to the following regions:

  • Barcelona (Spain)
  • Penela (Portugal)
  • Western Pomerania (Poland)
