The EPP Group in the European Committee of the Regions (EPP-CoR Group) welcomes the Resolution adopted by the European Parliament on the declaration of the EU as an LGBTIQ Freedom Zone and is committed to step up the European Committee of the Regions’ work to protect the rights of each citizen.

The EPP-CoR is committed to protect all vulnerable groups, fight hate speech, fundamentalism, racism, xenophobia and protect rights of minorities. That is why the EPP-CoR Group meeting on 16 March will include a debate on the 'Adamowicz Award' with MEP Magdalena Adamowicz (widow of Pawel Adamowicz) and Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Mayor of Gdańsk ahead of launching the Adamowicz award at the 143rd CoR plenary session later next week.

Last January marked two years since Pawel Adamowicz, former Mayor of Gdańsk for 20 years and EPP-CoR member, passed away following a brutal attack. The CoR will be launching an award to honour his memory. His work and commitment to tolerance and solidarity as well as to live together peacefully remains an example for all of us to follow. This award will serve as a reminder that there is no room for intolerance and hate in our society and that no one can take away the freedoms enshrined in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
