The European People’s Party Group in the European Committee of the Regions (EPP-CoR) warmly congratulates Péter Magyar and the TISZA Party on their victory in Hungary’s elections. This result reflects a strong democratic mandate and a clear call from Hungarian citizens for renewal, accountability, and a prosperous European future.
The EPP-CoR underlines the importance of this outcome not only for Hungary, but also for the broader European project, reaffirming the central role of democratic values, rule of law, and effective governance at all levels.
Patrick Schwarz-Kiefer Member of the County Council of Baranya Vármegye and of the EPP-CoR welcomed the result, stating: “Yesterday we had elections in Hungary, and it had the highest turnout in Hungarian democratic history since 1990. I’m very happy that we have won the election, and now we can start to work on a more prosperous future for Hungary. And of course, as a local politician, it’s very important for me that local and regional authorities will have their place under the new EPP-led government. I’m sure that you in the EPP, our friends in the CoR and in the EPP, will help us to build a better and more prosperous Hungary in the upcoming four years.”
EPP-CoR President Sari Rautio emphasised that this electoral outcome opens a new chapter for Hungary, where cooperation between European, national, regional and local levels will be essential. She stressed the importance of empowering local and regional authorities to play a full role in rebuilding trust, strengthening democratic institutions, and ensuring that EU policies and funds deliver tangible benefits to citizens across the country. Rautio added "This result brings hope to all Europe. It shows that democracy and the future starts from local and regional level. Congratulations to Hungarian people!"
The EPP-CoR looks forward to working closely with the new leadership and all partners to support Hungary in advancing prosperity, reinforcing democratic standards, and contributing constructively to Europe’s shared future.
