The day of the Summit of EPP Regional and Local Leaders in Bucharest on 16th of March, started with an early morning meeting of Manfred Weber, EPP Lead Candidate for the Presidency of the European Commission, with PNL leadership at EU, national, regional and local levels.

The discussions focused on:
- The implementation of EU funds (current funding and post 2020)
- Strengthening the internal market through a better integration of the Romanian economy
- Improving transport infrastructure and public services, including health
- EU values, subsidiarity, decentralisation and bureaucracy and rule of law

After the meeting, PNL mayors and presidents of County Councils presented Manfred Weber, the future President of the European Commission, the successful partnerships between the liberal administrations and the European Union.

Liberal mayors have understood the importance of Romania's European Union membership and have successfully used newly created financial instruments to develop their communities. Cluj-Napoca, Oradea, Timişoara, Arad, Alba, Sibiu, Brasov, Suceava, Deva, Reşiţa and many other cities and municipalities in Romania have accessed billions of euros of European funds and have brought prosperity to their communities.


Manfred Weber also visited the Extreme Light Infrastructure - Nuclear Physics Centre in Magurele, a successful research project financed with EU funds.
