"Through our partnership with Ukrainian cities and regions we are delivering concrete support which we need to further strengthen as the European People's Party (EPP). These include the Alliance of cities and regions to rebuild Ukraine as well as the organization of camps for children." Olgierd Geblewicz, President of the EPP-CoR Group and President of Westpomerania Region made these remarks during the EPP Political Assembly taking place in Lisbon.
Addressing European and National EPP leaders, Geblewicz also spoke on protecting consumers in the light of rising energy prices. "To ensure security of supply we need to promote energy efficiency on the ground as well as local energy production. This is key to ensuring affordable energy for citizens and SMEs."
Geblewicz also spoke on the importance that EPP to reconnect with the local and regional level through the EPP-CoR to strengthen European democracy. From his end Manfred Weber President of the EPP said that "The EPP is the strongest political family in Europe because we are the people's party. We have strong roots in our societies and we can provide the right answers to the day-to-day challenges people are facing in our countries."
The political assembly was also addressed by Partido Popular President Alberto Núñez Feijóo, a former President of the Region of Galicia and member of the EPP-CoR who praised the strong and high quality local and regional leadership without which no concrete action can be delivered on the ground and no national or European election can be held successfully for the EPP family.
Luís Montenegro, President of PSD Portugal said "We are the party of the people. The party that guarantees solidarity between peoples but also between countries. And we are committed to Europe and to the work of the EPP." Participating in the political assembly was also Carlos Moedas, Mayor of Lisbon. In a tweet, Weber said that the change seen in Lisbon is a beacon of hope for the future of Portugal.
