EPP-CoR member Rafał Trzaskowski will be discussing the role cities can play to fulfil the ambitions of the European Green Deal, including reaching climate neutrality and thus having no net emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050, during the first Green Deal Hour Chat organized by the European Committee of the Regions (CoR).
Trzaskowski, who served the CoR Rapporteur on the Climate Pact (Opinion Factsheet), an initiative to trigger public engagement on the European Green Deal will in particular be discussing the importance of involving citizens in climate action and how local action is the key for the ambitious climate-neutrality goal of the European Green Deal to happen.
With fear that COVID-19 might serve as a set-back to the green transition, he will also discuss the importance of the recovery process to embrace sustainable solutions whilst ensuring that no one is left behind.
Trzaskowski who was appointed by the CoR as member of the political board of the Covenant of Mayors, a movement that brings together thousands of local governments voluntarily committed to implementing EU climate and energy objectives, has been at the forefront calling on the European Commission to grant cities and regions direct funds to fulfil projects to implement concrete projects that deliver results.
