As part of the European Week of Regions and Cities, the Region of Attica hosted a high-level discussion titled “A Sea of Green: Shaping a Resilient and Sustainable Tomorrow for Greater Athens” at its exhibition pavilion in the Square Brussels – Exhibition Area.
The event was chaired by Mr. Nikos Chardalias, Governor of the Region of Attica, alongside Ms. Eliza Vozemberg, Member of the European Parliament and Chair of the Committee on Transport and Tourism. Together, they presented two flagship initiatives of sustainable urban transformation — the Faliron Bay Redevelopment (“Aenaon Park”) and the Integrated Spatial Investments of the Metropolitan Green Spaces of Attica.
During an engaging Q&A session, Governor Chardalias emphasised the transformative role of these projects in reshaping the Attica Region’s urban landscape. He highlighted that the “AENAON” project, a €370 million EU-funded initiative, will revitalize 74 hectares of coastal land into a vast green and cultural hub for all citizens by 2028. He also outlined the Integrated Spatial Green Investment Strategy, which allocates €27 million for the regeneration of the Pedion tou Areos, Attiko Alsos, and Antonis Tritsis parks — turning them into safe, accessible, and vibrant public spaces for the people of Attica.
“These projects are not just about infrastructure; they are about restoring trust, dignity, and a sense of belonging for citizens,” noted Governor Chardalias, stressing his commitment to ensuring the long-term sustainability and vitality of Attica’s metropolitan parks.
The session underscored how European funding, regional vision, and multilevel cooperation can converge to create a greener, more resilient future for Athens — fully in line with the objectives of the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus.
