Daniela Cîmpean (EPP/RO) has been appointed rapporteur on "European Health Data Space" on 2nd of June during the external meeting of NAT held in in Santiago de Compostela.
The EHDS is the first proposal of domain-specific common European data spaces as part of the European Health Union. It will address health-specific challenges to electronic health data access and sharing EHDS will create a common space where natural persons can easily control their electronic health data. It will also make it possible for researchers, innovators and policy makers to use this electronic health data in a trusted and secure way that preserves privacy.
Daniela Cîmpean, President of Sibiu county in Romania, has great interest in the topic of this opinion and can provide for some practical suggestions. Sibiu County implemented a similar Health Data system being the first and only authority in Romania introducing such a digitalized platform for citizens’ medical records. It is up and running since April 2021, collecting data from all county’s public hospitals and other private clinics. Ms. Cîmpean intends to work closely with the Romanian Ministry of Health, with a view to extending this project to the national level as a good practice example.
