The European Committee of the Regions will draft an opinion the revision of the "Directive on deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure" and the "Regulation setting CO₂ emission performance standards for new passenger cars and for new light commercial vehicles and has appointed Adrian Teban (RO/EPP), Mayor of Cugir City as rapporteur for the opinion for "Towards zero emission road transport: Deploying alternative fuels infrastructure and strengthening CO2 emission performance standards"

The legislative proposals that the European Commission has published as part of the fit-for-55 package have a direct relevance for cities and regions. On the one hand the provision of alternative fuels infrastructure in all regions (urban, rural, peripheral, islands) is of crucial importance for cohesion. On the other hand, the zero-CO2 emission standards for cars have a huge impact on the automotive regions in the Union.

The transition of road transport towards zero-emission vehicles needs to be a just transition, leaving no region and no citizen behind. The transformation and its challenges have a clear regional dimension due to their consequences on regional growth and jobs.
